    • Oh, I liked it very much as I expected. Murray Pura is a good writer, spinning a story in a pleasant path. The story gives the reader very much to think about. The Whetstone family has grown up since Lyyndaya and Jude followed their love of flying and country in Wings of Morning. The story addresses the issues of humankind in spirituality and conviction as the Whetstones, Lyyndaya, Jude and their grown children, Nate and Rebecca, along with Lyyndaya's sister Ruth examine their Amish heritage and [...]

    • In Whisper of a New Dawn Murray Pura has penned a powerful story of healing and letting go of the past. The story is set in 1941 shortly before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It is great to see several of the characters we have seen before in The Wings of Morning once again. Together with Jude, Lyyndaya, Becky, and her brother Nate, we visit their Amish family in Paradise, Pennsylvania before they leave for Oahu, Hawaii.Becky has just suffered a great loss and has vowed to never love a man again. [...]

    • I requested this knowing full well it's Amish/religion themed, but the woman pilot during Pearl Harbor was irresistible to me and I wanted to give it a go. I'm glad I did. There was much to like about this novel, though there were some bits that grew tiresome.Loved:--The heroiner the most part. She isn't without her flaws (who isn't?) but I'll get to those in a bit. A sentence from her father in the beginning sums her up to a T:"Hooking you up to an Amish farm boy would be like putting a modern [...]

    • Whispers of a New Dawn returns to familiar characters from the first Snapshots in History novel, The Wings of Morning. Lyyndaya and Jude are now parents, and have instilled their love of flying in their children, Nate and Becky. When a missionary trip comes to an end, Lyyndaya and Jude return to their Pennsylvania Amish community so that their family can spend time with their Amish relatives. Becky doesn’t expect to fit in very well, considering that she wasn’t born or brought up in the comm [...]

The two enjoy a friendship that seems to be turning into something more seriousuntil Sunday, December 7, 1941 dawns on the Hawaiian Islands. This book can't make up its mind what it wants to be. One minute it seems pro-Amish, the next anti-Amish. It goes back and forth through the whole book like that with little b [...]

    • Becky Whetstone is the perfect offspring. She loves to fly - just like her parents. But would she give it all up to become the Amish wife of a good man? Well, both of her parents were raised Amish so the culture is nothing new to Becky. In fact, she embraces it. But when a series of events cause her to rethink her life, will she be forced to do something she doesn't want to do or will she take on the new challenge and see where it leads? When I first started this book and I guess up until halfway [...]

    • This is the third book in the Snapshots of History series, bringing back Jude and Lyyndaya Whetsone from book 1, this time 20 years later, and they now have their own family. 19 year old Becky, and an older brother; a missionary in China who is now missing. They are back home in their Amish community; Jude and Lyynday are thinking about returning to their faith and staying, and Becky is considering joining the Amish church. When a tragedy occurs, life changes for all of them, and Jude is called t [...]

    • 4.5/5.0What a beautiful, inspirational story of love, and heartbreak amid the lessons of learning to follow God at all costs! Read full review in the 2013 June issue of InD’tale Magazine.

    • Book 3 in the Snapshots in History Series by Murray Pura “Wispers of a New Dawn”Dealing with a difficult subject is always a challenge then when you throw in war and the memories that may bring up for some is really heart wrenching at times. Author Murray Pura has taken on this task with this wonderful book about the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 while wrapping this around a exciting love story with Becky Whetstone and Christian Raven. There is a lot of factual information tha [...]

    • I love reading Amish books - this one was different in that the main characters left the Amish community to go to Hawaii and train men and women to fly. Those that had been baptized members were shunned for leaving. Jude and Lyndaya knew when they left they would never be able to return. But they felt called by God to go to Hawaii. Becky has real spunk to her. I was really interested to read about Pearl Harbor and was slightly disappointed that it took three-fourths of the book before you finall [...]

    • Good clean christian historical novelI loved this story and the author is very good. I have just recently been reading his books they have such good substance. The books honor the Lord. I recommend the book and the author.

    • I received this book for free from First Reads!Seven years ago, on March 23rd, I received news that the man I loved had died from injuries sustained in a car accident. Every year the sadness engulfs me as this date approaches. I started this book hoping to forget my pain for awhile. Imagine my surprise when Becky falls in love with Moses Yoder, becomes engaged and loses him in a tragic accident. Becky and her family choose to live Pennsylvania and the Amish. They move to Hawaii, where her famil [...]

    • I always enjoy historical fiction about Pearl Harbor and this book was interesting to read. I liked it at first and then the main characters began to get way too "sticky sweet" and sappy for my preferences. It was no longer believable at that point, and ruined the romance part of this story for me. There were many descriptions of affection that didn't seem to mesh with the time period, and Becky seemed pretty brazen. In my opinion, the author ruined this story.Becky's Christian (Amish) parents n [...]

    • WHISPERS OF A NEW DAWN by Murray Pura is an interesting inspirational Historical fiction (Pearl Harbor). #3 in the "Snapshots in History" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, " Wings of War" (World War I),"and "The Face of Heaven"(Civil War). The year is 1941,the family is the Whetstones(Jude,Lyyndaya, their daughter, Rebecca, and son Nate) raised Amish, are summoned to Hawaii. The Whetstones are stunt flyers who will train flight pilots during World War II at Pearl Harbor. Filled with tr [...]

    • The Whetstone Family were missionary pilots who had lived overseas. They came back to their Amish family and had some decisions about their lives to make. The story artfully blends the Amish community values the family had held dear to pre-war World War II and the subsequent bombing of Pearl Harbor.I enjoyed this book immensely, Mr. Pura told some of the history of the WWII aircraft and it added to his story, you can tell he researched a lot in order to write this book. The tragedies that befell [...]

    • Book three in the series.I liked it a lot, since it gave us a look at what happened to the people mentioned in book 1.I like the idea of the story behind this book. What I did not like is the fact that it seems so drawn out, maybe it is the fact that there are so many secondary characters in the story;that just kept me thinking when will it get back to the main thought or story line for Rebekah and christian. And then it comes to an sudden end. These are just some of my thoughts. Mr.Murray is an exce [...]

    • I've won this book on a First Reads giveaway here on .It's such a beautiful story. I loved the characters and not only the main ones, it was easy to connect with all of them. There is a war and loss of those whom they love but it's not about hate and revenge. It's mostly about love and faith, the amazing forces that can heal all their past wounds and help them start again. Mr. Pura is a great author. I loved the way he built this story and the realistic way he ended it. I'm definitely looking fo [...]

    • This is the third book in the author’s Snapshots in History series. I loved this book also. I always enjoy reading Murray Pura. He keeps a story moving and seems very realistic. This book has the characters from book one and their children. I leads up to the events of Pearl Harbor and through that surprise attack. The book kept me engrossed so I had to keep reading until I completed it. I hope there are more books in this series.
